About this tool
The tip is the bill multiplied by the percentage. The total is bill plus tip, and the per-person amount is that total divided by the number of people. The math runs in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account or app to install.
Customary tipping ranges vary by country and setting. In the United States, 15 to 20 percent of the pre-tax bill is the usual range for table service; many people tip on the full amount including tax for simplicity. For counter service, a smaller amount or a rounded-up total is common. Use whatever feels right for the service you received.

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the traditional convention, but tipping on the total is simpler and only slightly more generous. Either is fine; enter whichever amount you prefer in the bill field.
What does the rounding option do?
It rounds each person's share up to the next whole dollar. The small extra goes to the server as part of the tip, and the tool shows the adjusted total so you can see the difference.
Does this tool store my numbers?
No. Everything is calculated on your device, and nothing is saved or transmitted. Refreshing the page resets the fields to their defaults.
