Split the Bill – even or custom shares with tip
Split a restaurant bill evenly or by custom shares, add a tip, and see exactly what each person owes. Runs in your browser.
How to use
- Enter the bill total before tip and the tip percentage you want to leave.
- For an even split, enter the number of people. Done.
- For an itemized split, choose "By what each person ordered", add a row per person and type what each one had. Shared items you do not assign are spread proportionally.
- Read what each person owes, including their share of the tip.
About this tool
An even split divides the total (bill plus tip) by the number of people. An itemized split gives each person their own items plus a proportional share of the tip and of any unassigned amount. For example, if someone ordered 40% of the food, they pay 40% of the tip and 40% of the shared starters.
Amounts are rounded to cents, so the individual shares may add up to a cent or two more or less than the grand total. The calculation runs on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.
FAQ
What if the per-person items add up to more than the bill?
The tool warns you, because something was probably entered twice. Check the item amounts against the receipt and adjust.
How are shared dishes handled?
Leave shared dishes out of the individual rows. The difference between the bill total and the sum of individual items is split in proportion to each person's own order. If you prefer to split shared items evenly, add the same amount to each person's items instead.
Can I split with a fixed tip amount instead of a percentage?
Yes: set the tip percentage to the amount divided by the bill, times 100. For a fixed 20 on a 100 bill, enter 20. Or set the tip to 0 and add it to the bill total.
